I'm not a big romantic because most romance seems superficial to me. And as cliche as they may be, I think friends to lover is a very logical thing. I do firmly believe in common interests and active participation in each others' lives, and at least making the effort to understand each others' interests. With friends, you've already got all of that. It just takes some butterflies and hormones, and boom, you've got a nearly perfect relationship (in a perfect world of course).
And while I'm not a romantic, I had the biggest smile on my face as I read the last scene. It demonstrated the extent to which they knew each other. The dimple on his face that had been on his face all day because of his blossming feelings, and how he let her have all the crispy potatoes... ah, it makes my heart melt away. Fluff really is not my thing, but I love the way you write it and your take on such a cliche.
I knew it in my bones from the very beginning that I'm going to LOVE this story. And I did. Every little bit of it. Lorcan is exactly who you'd expect to be Luna's son, and his disinterest in everything that isn't academic makes me love him. That and his knack for sarcasm that Lysander mentioned. I do hope we get to see more of that. But most importantly, I admire him for not succumbing to Lysander's mad plan. Mostly because this means we get to see Lysander probably screw things up. But at least they both have the passion for magical creatures in common.
I didn't see the whole friends-to-lovers thing that I'm suspecting now coming at all. But I did want to point out that I didn't feel good about his girlfriend at all. She seems very self-centered and I don't understand why Lysander has to put so much thought into pleasing her if she's not reciprocating with anything. Not even feigned interest in his interests. And yes, Lysander might be slightly crazy, but that doesn't mean he doesn't deserve someone thoughtful and at least respects his interests. I can't wait to see what happens next.
This was the Valentine's Challenge from a little while ago, where we were paired with someone and had to write half the story. This half was mine. :) I had a GREAT partner, and I thought our story came out really wonderfully. When I read back on it, it just looks all put together and cohesive.
Lorcan and Lysander seemed like interesting blokes to write about. I had always wondered what they would be like at Hogwarts. I didn't think they'd be as spacey as their mother, and they'd be influenced a lot by whatever personality their father would have... it was fun to think up the possibilities.
Lysander is one of those eager to please types, but he's starting to grow a bit and realize that what he has might not be what he wants. Sometimes it takes a little while to figure things out and make a change.
I'm glad you liked the characters! They were so much fun to write!
