Hey Bec!

I've gotta admit that I'm a Game of Thrones TV show watcher, and not a reader, but I love the Targaryens because of the DRAGONS. I did a little bit of research on Visenya before reading and she sounds awesome, so I'm excited! And definitely not disappointed by your characterisation. Though I haven't seen her in action, I can still tell that she's not meek and willing to sit back and let others make decisions for her.

I remember the Targaryen tradition of keeping themselves within the family, so it makes sense that Visenya has known about it her whole life and is more than happy to make her family proud. And since Valyrian families are disappearing, I can understand why their desperate to hold onto their lineage.

Side note: All the names are just so beautiful.

I think you do a really exellent job of balancing story with summary. It's great because someone who doesn't know much of the original story (i.e. me :P) still has a pretty good grip on the world and traditions in your story without becoming confused or bored, and that can be so hard to do, so kudos to you!

Omggg how are you a person, ILY so much for this. I just can't.

I can't for two reasons:

First, I effing adore Visenya. (I mean, obviously. You knew that. :P) Everything about her just makes me love her - the way she's described as passionate and volatile and a warrior and that just really always made me love her most of all the Targaryens. (I mean, other than maybe Jon? But definitely way more than Bloodraven or Shierra Seastar or Dany!) There's this Visenya that's built up in my head and literally only necromancy and scary libraries could make me change my username from her, sooooo ahhh Visenya!

Second, I love the way you captured her. Love, love, love it. Everything about her in this story fits what I built up in my head. She's not passive or docile - she's proud and aloof, even when Aegon just tells her that by the way, he's totally marrying their sister, too. I think it's really hard to tell that conversation in a way that doesn't put Visenya in the role of a victim, but you managed it. It fits perfectly with the harsh, stern personality she's described as having, and I loved it.

This is such an amazing present. Omg. Thank you so, so, so much.

Author's Response:

I'm so glad to hear this.  George's world is scary to try to write because of its complexity so I figured it was best to dip my toe in outside of the ones we see in the books or on screen.  Visenya is such a tough, unique character that I was wanted to do her justice.  She is more "normal" here, but hopefully I can keep it up when she starts fighting on dragon back and using dark magic to get her way!
