this was the cutest thing ive ever read and i wanted to write a long review but im reading myself to sleep so for now i'll just say that you're the best and so was this. 10/10 for characterization, dialogue, and being becky in disguise.
I'm so excited that now I can read all of your simon vs. fics since I've read the book! Fanfic for days!
"the bin of random underfunded gym equipment" -- omg hahaha this was my high school to a T. it's a silly detail but it just feels so high school
(Dumbledore asked calmly. CALMLY.) -- Calmly, indeed. :P That line is and will always be the worst. But I loved that Simon is an HP fan and of course I love that you've really included so many references to that in your story :P
The boy that Bram was secretly emailing with about being gay could quite possibly be the boy that Bram had had a crush on since freshman year. -- Somehow you've managed to make their love story even cuter than it already was, just by showing it through Bram's POV. Like, it was already so adorable that my face hurt after I finished the book because I smiled for so much of it, but I always love characters who have long standing crushes and it actually works out for them, because I relate so much to that - well, except I was always the person with the long standing yet unrequited crush. :P
Okay and what I love most about this is the idea that Bram figured it out so early on. Because in the book we see that Bram stopped emailing Simon pretty soon after he told him "I'm pretty sure I know who you are" - but your story really shows that that wasn't why the emails stopped. i think it would be just like Bram to sit on that information for weeks and not say a thing. And the fact that he knew for a while and nothing changed in their emails immediately, that's pretty sweet, actually :)
I loved this! I love your writing of Bram's POV and the other side of the story, so to speak. <3
"They were in gym class, and Bram wasn't thinking about Jacques." Yes, Bram, because we all completely believe that. Very, very convincing.
Bram fishing for information about Simon/Jacques is kind of cute. He's trying so hard to be subtle, and he's actually doing a pretty good job of it because I don't think that Garrett or Nick suspect a thing at this point, but I wonder if he really thought that he'd find out anything about Jacques, let alone what he probably most wanted to hear.
Oh my goodness, Garrett saying that Simon was a ninja or something. And Bram's response <3 I can just imagine exactly what Simon would say to him if he heard that again - I mean, it is Harry Potter. Who doesn't know that? It's unacceptable. These kids have been brought up wrong if they don't know about Harry Potter :P
Simon's email to Blue! Ah, you captured those emails so well, and I can definitely imagine Simon writing that - it felt like it could have been one of the emails we see in the book. Simon keeps dropping all of these clues about himself without even realising he's doing it - but I wonder if Bram would have been able to put them together so easily if he hadn't already been paying so much attention to Simon in the first place.
(Totally agree with Simon. DUMBLEDORE ASKED CALMLY.)
I really loved the way that you built up the sense of realisation that Simon and Jacques could be one and the same in this story, and the hope and happiness that Bram felt when he realised it might be true. It was just so sweet and lovely to read!
