I just had to review another Simon story. I'm very pleased to see a story about Leah.
I can relate to certain people revealing new aspects of oneself. If I had to guess, I would say it was the attire that caught Leah's attention. Poor Leah, the two people she is attracted to are dating each other.
"one beer Spier" does make me chuckle so!
It's nice to see Leah have a fun time with Abby. Friends before lovers always.
Your description and defense of Leah dating Garrett is lovely. It doesn't dismiss the relationship they had or make it sound like Leah was being false. It's perfectly natural that Leah and Garrett would break up before leaving to university. It's really best to be unburdened by a long distance relationship at the start of college.
Leah and Abby being roommates is a recipe for interesting developments between them. Abby has a very mature view on living with another person. It's sad that Leah doubts her friendship with dear Simon. 💔
The way Abby and Leah's conversation falls apart and then comes together is just perfect. They both had something to reveal about themselves, including a desire for each other.
Wonderful story, dear.
Hey Claire <3
I don't think you needed Julie to hold your hand on this piece, it's really brilliant! I've read another of your Simon pieces and I think you do an awesome job at characterising Leah, it always seem to be like you understand the character and we don't get to see much her thought process within the book but you portray it a lot like I imagine her to be. I think Leah has a lot going on in her head that she probably doesn't say and you've really caught that in this piece.
I love the beginning with Leah's questioning herself like she thinks she should know that a moment will come along and that'll be it. I think it makes a lot of sense that she could be feeling like that. I don't really have any first hand experience of it myself but I think it seems like that kinda thought process rings very true and believable to me. I like how you still got Leah's humour in this story too, I love her sarcastic dry humour. "Yeah, most awkward way ever to get a splinter." hahaha.
I like Leah/Garrett gets a mention too because I've always enjoyed the idea of those two together as well. I could basically ship so many couples in this fandom. I don't know which is my favourite. The final scene with Abby and Leah is so damn awkward fluffy sweetness. Beautifully written and just fun to read. I love this piece, well done <3
