Oh, this is so sad and I feel so bad for Charlie! It's bad enough that he and Tonks were on two completely different life paths (with Charlie working with the dragons in Romania and Tonks beginning Auror training), but the real kicker is that when Charlie felt he had the courage to blurt his feelings out to her, she didn't return them whatsoever. And I completely understand--she wants to be his friend and thinks they're far too similar to ever really work, but that must be absolutely heartbreaking! Though, I am completely down with Remus/Tonks, so I suppose then that Charlie/Tonks would've put a damper on that anyway. The very end, though, is so moving. Charlie, with the confetti from Madame Puddifoots at Tonk's grave, still loving her. This was such a moving little piece; fantastic job! I'd never really taken in account the fact that Charlie was one of those characters that just went unmentioned in the way of a relationship, even in the after parts of the war to Next Gen when we were given a laundry list of marriages and kiddos, so I really like this theory!
Sometimes people get over those school crushes and sometimes they don't. Charlie never found anyone he loved like Tonks, which is why he was able to handle her marrying Lupin, since he knew it was best for her. I really like Charlie/Tonks as a couple, even though we know they don't end up together. I think they would have been good for each other, too.
I think most people have had the 'let's just be friends' speech and I thought Charlie needed that. Thank you for the review, they are all appreciated.
