I haven't review anything of yours in a good while, so I thought it was about time to come back. And well, the snowball fight was just the perfect opportunity to do so. The story looks really sweet. I haven't read many stories about Neville as a child, so I'm curious to see what he was like. Anyway, I'm just gonna stop talking and get right to reading.
Aww. Neville is so adorable. And happy. You don't see often in stories about him as a kid, but I love it. He reminds me a little bit of my nephew. Really curious and very smart for his age. And I'm guessing Enid is the Enid that we know as Frank's aunt. Aww. I love that she's so supportive and makes Neville believe that he can do amazing things. I think having relatives like her was probably really important for Neville as he was growing up. And I'd really like it if she was actually as great as she is in this story. The story almost seems to hint a little bit at there being no shame in not having magical powers, like with the part about not getting a Hogwarts letter. I'd like to think that maybe Enid was trying to tell Neville that, even if he might not have understood it at that age. It would be interesting considering the little we know about her and her husband, and that episode where Algie was hanging Neville out of an upstairs window to test if he had powers.
And omg. I love this line: "Augusta rolled her eyes. "Any idiot can use a transfiguration spell, Neville. You'll learn when you go to Hogwarts.". That is so Augusta. Great job! I absolutely loved it. Thank you so much for sharing it!
Omg this is just is cute and precious!
It seems kind of rare to find stories about young Neville when he is actually, you know, happy. He had a tough lot, but I’m really glad you let us have this fluffy little moment.
Omg Augusta. She was bad enough in canon, but I really hate her here. Thinking stories are nonsense, considering dragon toys dangerous and not letting him have them. Ugh. That all kind of makes it make sense why his magic was delayed, with her stunting his imagination like that.
I thought thought that Blast Ended Skrewts were originally bred by Hagrid, so I don’t think they would have known about them then, but I could be wrong.
Omg little Neville wants a pet dragon it’s so cute help
Hehe, I love Neville’s interpretation of the phrase “bite your head off.” It is very literal and child like, and speaks to both his imagination and his fear.
Omg this is too fabulous I can’t. I love how Neville’s aunt works that he may not get a Hogwarts letter into her story. They worried that he may not go to Hogwarts, but I love that she is subtly softening the possible blow and giving him the message that he can be extraordinary without Hogwarts.
Chinese Firebomb. I can’t with the cute.
Get out, Gran. We don’t want you.
Neville’s aunt weaves so many more great Neville themes into the story, like his fear that he wasn’t smart enough and forgetfulness, and I love it all.
Neville is so compassionate. He deserves all the good things.
NEVILLE YOU WILL TAME DRAGON AND BE A DRAGON. RAWRS AND HUGS FOREVER.
I love this all so much. A fic about telling a child a dragon story seems like it would definitely e a Charlie story, but your choice of Neville is so perfect. I really like that you gave him this childhood dream, and even though he did not literally reach it in his life, he certainly did symbolically.
So much love.
Yaaaaay dragons!!! I love the idea of tiny little Neville being enraptured by stories about magical creatures. I love that Neville has these relatives (as well as his Uncle Algie) who know he's going to grow up to be brave and strong. I think it's really sweet after he'd been living with such a strict grandmother. I love that Aunt Enid is teaching Neville that he can do whatever he wants when he grows up.
Oh my goodness I can just imagine a tiny toy Blast-Ended Skrewt making little carpet burns all over the house, haha! Poor Augusta!
Neville wants a dragon so he can take it for a walk! That's so cute!
"Just don't play with it in front of you gran or she might turn into a dragon too." Hahaha I love this line.
The dialogue in this is so lovely - I almost didn't notice that a lage chunk of it at the end is purely dialogue. Neville asks so many cute questions that remind me of my own nephew. His enthusiasm is adorable too, even if he does change is mind about taming dragons by the time he gets to Hogwarts :P and the story about the Forgetfulness Dragon is amazing!
Also the banner is super cute - I never tire of looking at your graphics!
